Synopsis:

Rafael Angelos just got handed the greatest gift any teenage boy could ever dream of. Upon arriving at his new boarding school for senior year, he discovered that he is the ONLY male student. But what should have been a godsend isn't exactly heaven on Earth.

Raffi's about to learn that St. Mary's is actually a hub for demons-and that he was summoned to the school by someone expecting him to save the day. Raffi knows he's no angel-but it's pretty hard to deny that there's some higher plan at work when he wakes up one morning to discover a glowing circle around his head.

Helen Keeble's debut novel, Fang Girl, has been praised for its pitch-perfect teen voice, and VOYA called it "refreshing and reminiscent of Louise Rennison's Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series." No Angel brings you angels and demons like you've never seen them-complete with the wry humor of Vladimir Tod, sinfully irreverent romance, and some hilariously demonic teenage dilemmas.
My Thoughts:

Infused with hilarious dialogues and unpredictable surprises, No Angel is an entertaining story that will keep you laughing-out-loud to angel and demon tropes.

“I come bearing Good News! For unto you a child shall be born!”

The girl stared at me. She did not look like she considered this to be glad tidings.
“Hey, I just deliver the news, I don’t write it,” I snapped…

When Rafael Angelos found out that the boarding school for girls where her mother attended in high school were now accepting male students, he begged his father to let him enroll in it, as a way to honor his mother’s memory. But as soon as he arrived, he found out he was the only guy who enrolled. It should have been a good news if it wasn't for the demons that are freely roaming the campus. Apparently, the school was built on a Hellgate where demons can manifest in the mortal world. And two girls, Krystal and Faith, believed that he is an angel who was summoned to help them fight the forces of evil and close the Hellgate for good. Raffi thought that they are crazy. Him? An angel? Yeah, right. But the glowing halo floating above his head and his newly sprouted wings beg to differ.

I knew that girls pretended to be disinterested when they actually were panting for you, but when it came to playing hard to get, “I’m going to kill you” was Olympic level.

Helen Keeble's hilarious debut novel, Fang Girl (review here), left me wanting more last year. So when I found out she has an upcoming book, I immediately requested it. No Angel still has her signature sarcastic banters and unpredictable twist and turns but the suspense was lesser here than in Fang Girl. The fun factor was still the same, though.

“That,” I said at last, “is – and I am speaking here as the guy who just found out he’s a winged, glowing mutant, mind you – the most insane thing I have ever heard.”

Rafael or Raffi was such a fun character to read. He was charming, sarcastic, impulsive and sometimes egocentric. He might be an angel but his mind will always be human, filled with not-so holy thoughts. He also has a sweet and caring side and the way he protected Lydie and all the bullied girls in St. Mary proved that.

“You have to spread your holy love over everyone,” Faith said, nodding.

I was pretty sure a real angel wouldn’t find that quite so dirty.

The other three lead characters here were girls: Michaela (the mysterious mean girl and currently reigning queen bee of St. Mary), Faith (the virtuous girl and dethroned queen bee) and Krystal (the nerdy outcast). They were stereotypes, yes, but they were brilliant as stereotypes and they add a lot of sass and fun in this book.

“I’m a seraph,” I reminded her happily. “I’m supposed to sing constant praises.”

“Not to yourself!”

Overall, No Angel is an awesome novel that takes angel and demon story to a not-so serious-but-definitely-amusing level. I will highly recommend this to everyone who wants a light and funny paranormal read.
